In these examples a German company has been reduced to 4 figures. If they were assaulted by two British companies how many figures would count in close assault ?
I have illustrated the 4 different situations they might find themselves in.
My figures are based on a 15mm (3/5") frontage and 25mm (1") depth i.e. a double base would be 30mm (1 1/5") x 25mm (1").
I know some people use coins or washers which are typically 18mm (3/4") so these examples should still apply.

(a) defender in the open (above)
In this situation the defender would count 4 figures + D6. Attacker would be 6 figures (left) + 3 figures (right) + D6
(i.e. rule 7.1 within 1" & rule 7.4 & rule 7.5 defending in the open)

(b) Defenders dug-in (above)
In this situation the defender would be 4 figures + D10. The attacker would be 10 figures (left) + 5 figures (right) + D6
(i.e rule 7.1 within 1" of dug-in position occupied by enemy infantry & rule 7.4 & rule 7.5 defending dug-in positions & rule 7.15 assaulted on one or two sides at a time)

(c) Defenders occupying a building (above)
In this situation the defender would be 4 figures + D10. The attacker would be 9 + 10 + D6
(i.e rule 7.1 within 1" of dug-in position occupied by enemy infantry & rule 7.4 & rule 7.5 & rule 7.15 assaulted on one or two sides at a time)

(d) Defenders occupying a building (above)
In this situation the defender would be 4 figures + D10. The attacker would be 10 + 10 + D6
(i.e rule 7.1 within 1" of dug-in position occupied by enemy infantry & rule 7.4 & rule 7.5 & rule 7.15 assaulting on one or two sides at a time).
